Alpha Wireless was well and truly on display at MWC Los Angeles 2019 – attendees got a taste of the company’s offerings not only at its exhibit stand but before they even stepped through the front door!

For those with their eyes peeled on their way in, the Alpha Wireless CAN could be spotted atop a lamppost near the entrance to the Los Angeles convention centre where the three-day event was held last month.

Head of Sales for Alpha Wireless North America Mike Gulledge said the CAN small cell solution was a big hit at the stand, and the presence of the product outside the centre was serendipitous.

“The CAN was built with aesthetics in mind – specifically designed to blend in with its surroundings. It is an ideal solution for carriers who are out of spectrum, or severely spectrum limited. It has been popular in North America ever since hitting the market, it definitely made us smile seeing one right on our walk into the centre,” VP of Technology and Business Development Tim Sill said.

“The CAN also stole a lot of the limelight at the Alpha Wireless stand. For operators looking to increase coverage and capacity it really is a great option because it brings the antenna, shroud, radio and power into a single ultra-compact casing. It’s perfect for any operator needing a discreet solution to get fast planning and zoning approval.”

Among the hot topics at the event was the launch of commercial service in the CBRS 3.5GHz band. Experts came together to host a workshop discussing the OnGo powered by CBRS Alliance, its deployments and the changes it is likely to have on the wireless industry.

“For Alpha Wireless, CBRS presents a massive opportunity. We are one of the leading companies when it comes to the 3.5GHz spectrum, with years of experience in this area,” Sill said.

“We have an outstanding product portfolio of solutions for CBRS applications, and MWC gave us the chance to show a variety of OEMs how we can help them with their end-to-end solution approaches.”

In the wake of CBRS launch, the Panel AW3711 proved popular at MWC. It is a 33-degree beamwidth Panel antenna designed to provide high capacity for fixed wireless broadband. This product was developed to offer a narrow Azimuth Beam with four port functionality and RET control.

“This product is a good example of our market-leading work in 3.5GHz products,” Sill said.

“It was designed for six-sector sites to increase capacity for fixed wireless access and is particularly notable for its ability to reduce interference – it has reduced azimuth sidelobes (<25 dB). This improves the SINR thus enabling higher modulation schemes for maximum throughput..”

Intelligent Connectivity was the overriding theme of MWCA 2019, looking at how the combination of 5G, artificial intelligence, smart platforms and the Internet of Things is set to change our way of life.

“Undoubtedly, we are moving into a new connectivity era, and that is one of the most exciting things about being part of this industry,” Alpha Wireless CEO Fergal Lawlor says.

“At Alpha Wireless, we take pride in our innovation. We always aim to be leading the way – creating brand new solutions based on each customer’s needs and anticipating what challenges they will face next.

“As we have already done in the initial stages of 5G, we will continue to use our expertise to help build the framework that enables these new technologies to work seamlessly. Our mission is …Changing the way wireless networks are built.”
