Alpha Wireless applauded for local focus in Australia

Oct 4, 2019 | News

Alpha Wireless’ commitment to hiring local engineers to tackle local issues has been highlighted by Australia’s CommsDay.

The telecommunications wrote that in a world where cell deployments were increasingly prone to opposition from local residents, understanding the community was the key to creating the right antenna designs for an area.

Using Alpha Wireless as an example, CommsDay noted the company’s new Sydney-based research and development office, which was launched with a view to customising designs for local customers.

Alpha Wireless CEO Fergal Lawlor told the newsletter that the local focus was a particular selling point in Australia.

“Our key message is the ability of Alpha with the local R&D team to be able to customise for the local market. So the vendors that they are dealing with typically now, their R&D has moved to either China or India,” Lawlor told CommsDay.

“Every country is that bit different, so I think we have a big advantage being here and being able to offer that service to the Australian operator.”

The Sydney office is led by Alpha’s head of engineering Peter Liversidge, who previously headed similar operations for CommScope and, before that, Argus Technologies.

The locally led R&D is representative of the overall Alpha Wireless philosophy to provide exactly what a customer requires – whether the solution exists already or not. The Ireland-based company has long been known for its outside-the-box thinking and willingness to tailor designs to fit individual requests.

Alpha Wireless is distributed in Australia by Maser Technologies. Maser’s national sales manager, RF Leanne Ramsay, told CommsDay that Alpha forms part of a product range that also includes radio kit sourced from Kathrein, Rosenberger and Amphenol.

Ramsay said: “One of the things that I like about Alpha Wireless is that it’s not a run rate business trying to shift antennas out the door like a lot of the competition do. They are about customisation, so you know it’s fit for purpose. They design an antenna fit for the requirements that the customer wants.”

Peter Liversidge will be speaking at the CommsDay Melbourne Congress, which runs from the 09 – 10 October 2019 and will be attended by new communications minister Paul Fletcher and will be joined by companies such Telstra, Optus, VHA, Vocus, NBN Co as well as ACMA, Comms Alliance & more.
