Alpha Wireless reflects on 2019 highlights

Dec 16, 2019 | News

As the end of the year draws ever nearer, Alpha Wireless is celebrating the festive season with a look-back at the company’s 2019 highlights.

The wireless industry has continued to surge forward this year, with 5G leading the charge. For Alpha Wireless, the new technology has been a chance to showcase the company’s experience in 3.5GHz, CBRS-capable antenna solutions, as well as its focus on aesthetically pleasing solutions to provide the coverage and capacity that is in demand.

From a Super Bowl™ appearance, to a 5G first, it’s been a busy and exciting year for Alpha Wireless – here’s a taste of what we’ve been up to.

Super Bowl™ and beyond

Alpha Wireless was proud to play a role in boosting mobile coverage for the US Super Bowl™ in February, with AW3639 multi-band, multi-port panel antenna deployed to help meet the heavy demand on the network.

The small cell panel was an ideal solution for Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which hosted over 70,000 spectators, allowing operators to sectorise the target areas and make best use of capacity within the radio network.

In the same month, Alpha Wireless was part of another history-making moment by providing antennas for a 5G-enabled mobile network at the Millbrook Proving Ground that enabled self-driving vehicle testing.

In a UK-first, the AutoAir consortium demonstrated the UK’s only independent 5G-enabled infrastructure for connected and autonomous vehicles at the grounds in England.

New partnerships

Our mission at Alpha Wireless is to change the way wireless networks are built, and this year we’ve joined forces with a number of other companies to do that.

We are excited about our new partnerships with Double Radius, with facilities in both North Carolina and Utah and ISP Supplies in Texas enabling a swift turnaround on product for our customers.

Among other partnerships we’ve launched in 2019 is one with Ericsson distribution partner Xtreme LTE in the US, for which we are helping deliver solutions for the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS).

With over a decade experience in 3.5GHz spectrum, Alpha Wireless is a natural partner for operators looking for CBRS antenna solutions. Our work with Xtreme LTE is a great way to demonstrate that experience and build other relationships worldwide.

Working at home

While Alpha Wireless’ expansion across the globe has been exciting to watch, we’ve also had exciting projects going on in our own backyard.

We’ve been working with Cignal Ireland to develop antenna solutions addressing the lack of mobile and broadband coverage across the country.

A number of our Tri-Sector Antennas have been deployed to address coverage black spots in areas targeted for improved service, and the response from Cignal CEO Colin Cunningham has been excellent.

“The visual impact of antennas when trying to improve mobile coverage and capacity is a constant concern for communities, and therefore a constant battle for operators. It’s great that Alpha Wireless has been able to provide a product here that serves the interests of both so well,” he said.

New and improved products

We kicked off the year with the release of the next-generation CAN, introducing more spectrum options and shrinking the product further to make it even more robust and visually appealing.

Meanwhile, our latest release – the Panel AW3711, a 33-degree Azimuth, four-port antenna – has also drawn attention.

Designed for the CBRS, 3.5GHz band, the antenna provides focused signal and coverage that is more targeted, improving the quality of service for the end customer by enabling high intensity of data – buffer-free viewing!

With 12 months of great results behind us, the Alpha Wireless team is now looking forward to an even brighter 2020 and the huge opportunities that lie ahead. Merry Christmas from the Alpha Wireless team.
